Star Wars – From a Certain Point of View
Get ready to travel back in time to a galaxy far, far away! On May 25, 1977, the world was forever changed when Star Wars hit theaters and introduced us to a cast of unforgettable characters, including Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia. But what about the supporting characters? The ones who stood in the background, quietly observing the action? Well, now it’s their turn to shine!
To celebrate the fortieth anniversary of this iconic film, more than forty talented contributors have come together to give us “From a Certain Point of View.” This collection of short stories reimagines moments from the original film, but this time, we get to see them through the eyes of the supporting characters. And let me tell you, it’s a thrilling ride!
We get to hear Aunt Beru’s innermost thoughts in a touching character study by Meg Cabot, and Nnedi Okorofor brings depth and dignity to the monster in the trash compactor that we all love to hate. Gary Whitta bridges the gap between Rogue One and A New Hope through the eyes of Captain Antilles, while Pierce Brown gives us a heart-wrenching look at Biggs Darklighter’s final flight during the Rebellion’s attack on the Death Star. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!
But it’s not just the amazing stories that make this book so special. All of the participating authors have generously decided to donate their proceeds to First Book, a nonprofit that provides new books and learning materials to organizations serving children in need. And to top it off, Penguin Random House has donated $100,000 to First Book, while Disney/Lucasfilm has donated 100,000 children’s books valued at $1,000,000!
So, whether you’re a die-hard Star Wars fan or just looking for a great read, “From a Certain Point of View” is a must-read. It’s a celebration of the power of storytelling, the importance of education, and the enduring legacy of a film that changed the world.
