The hugely popular entertainment and action packed cricket competition, The Hundred, returns to the BBC this summer after a record-breaking first year, with extensive coverage across TV, radio and online from Wednesday 3 August.
The Hundred has opened the world of cricket to new audiences with 7.9m people tuning into the BBC last year to watch the competition, whilst 1.9m watched the opening women’s game on BBC Two making it the most watched women’s cricket match on record.
World Cup winner Isa Guha will lead the BBC TV coverage, alongside an expert line-up including Jimmy Anderson, Phil Tufnell, Carlos Brathwaite, Alison Mitchell, Alex Hartley, Henry Moeran and Aatif Nawaz.
Joining the BBC in 2022 are some of the sports biggest stars including Moeen Ali, Chris Jordan, Chris Woakes, Dane van Niekerk, Mark Wood and Heather Knight.
Need a refresher? Fast-paced, each game will last less than three hours. Each bowler can deliver a maximum of 20 balls per game and there will be 100 balls per innings – whoever scores the most runs wins. The competition will see eight teams from seven cities; Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit, Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers (Leeds), Oval Invincibles (London), Southern Brave (Southampton), Trent Rockets (Nottingham) and Welsh Fire (Cardiff). Each team will feature some of the best international and domestic cricketers from around the world, including England Men’s and Women’s World Cup winners.
Pairing world class cricket with live entertainment, this year will see Brit Award winners, Bastille, take to the stage for The Hundred final. BBC Music Introducing will be providing live music for all 34 games with the likes of Samm Henshaw, Jordan Mackampa, Phoebe Green and Tamera set to perform and keep the energy high.
Barbara Slater, Director of BBC Sport says: “It’s great to see the return of The Hundred and add to what has so far been an extraordinary summer of sport for the BBC. We can’t wait to deliver extensive coverage of this exciting event to audiences across all of our platforms”
